My all time favorate 1 Day mountain walk.
A combination of rugged mountains, cool lakes and pleasant forest. Excellet views to Tronador.
Transport:
Bariloche - Villa Cathedral: during summer there are hourly services between about 7.00 and 8.00pm starting from the Centre and alternately going along Bustillo and Pioneros. About $3.10 one way.
Camping:
This is a Day trek but camping would be possible at Frey to make it a very leisurely 2 day.
Route: (can be walked in either direction)
From the carpark at Villa Cathedral, its either a long slog up the skifield to Refuge Lynch, or the easier option is the Cable Car & Chair Lift. Over loose rock, round the back of Cerro Catedral overlooking the Rucaco valley, (spectacular views of Tronador) then dropping down to laguna Schmoll, Refuge Frey and a pleasant stroll through the forest back to villa Cathedral.
