Volcano Lanin Climb

Info from the Lanin National Park Leaflet: 'Climbing Lanin Volcano':

"Access to the trail is until 2pm only during the summer season and 12pm during the winter. Daily limit of hikers/climbers is 60 persons, including the refuges and tents. As places become available, people waiting will be given premission to proceed. No reservations are taken."...."For safety reasons or rescue operation, Lanin National Park has the authority to establish, suspend and/or restrict the traffic on the trail with no previous notice"

Location

The summit of this extinct volcano is shared between Chile and Argentina.

Transport

From Junin de los Andes or San martin de Los Andes the bus via Hito Paso Mahuil Malal to Curarrehue & Pucon. Get off at Guarderia Tromen. You may need to pre book the return journey as the bus is often full coming from Pucon.

Camping

Camping available at Guarderia Tromen (fee payable). There are couple of basic refuges on the mountain (Refugio Militar Nuevo & Refugio CAJA). Limited camping areas on the mountain.

Route

Up to date route details are best obtained from the Info center at the base of the Mountain. During summer its open 8am - 2pm & 3pm - 8pm. For those wanting to start out before 8am you are required to register the pervious day.
